a week at lake michigan

Late July, my whole family packed up and drove up to the coast of Lake Michigan. My mom found the most perfect beach cottage, tucked in the woods, off a sandy trail. We’d all been looking forward to this trip — a week of nothing or everything, depending on the traveler. I don’t often take vacations where I get to do nothing but sit on the beach and read. Most of the time, I feel like I need a vacation after my vacation because of all the running around, sightseeing, etc. This week was a perfect mix of beach-going, eating out, occasional activities, game playing, and sunset watching. Here are few shots I got on my Olympus 35mm camera on Portra 400 film. It was a special week for all of us.

Southern coast of Lake Michigan favorites over the years:

Grand Haven - Cute downtown, camping-friendly beach, delicious corndog stand!

Saugatuck - Artsy downtown, busy harbor, dune adventures

South Haven - “Beach town” vibes, big public beaches, lighthouse pier

Sheridan Beach - Technically in Indiana, quieter beach with all the same amenities, cheaper lodging
